Marriott announces “shoes to school 2012” initiative

A community outreach initiative by Marriott International properties in Indonesia to collect more than 2,300 new shoes to support the orphans.

For the first time, eight cross-brand properties under Marriott International in Indonesia: JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta; The Mayflower, Jakarta - Marriott Executive Apartments; The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan; The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Pacific Place; JW Marriott Hotel Surabaya; JW Marriott Hotel Medan; Bvlgari Hotel & Resort Bali and Courtyard by Marriott Bali Nusa Dua organized an annual event called “Shoes to School 2012”, which is a joint corporate social responsibility program to collect 2,305 new shoes for the orphans to welcome the new academic year of 2012.

The Shoes to School program was founded by the associates of JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta in 2004, where we collected over 100 pairs of new shoes. This year, together with our sister hotels in Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan and Bali managed to collect 2,305 pairs of new shoes for 10 orphanages in Jakarta: Yayasan Baitul Ula in Ciputat - Tangerang, Yayasan Manarul Muttaqien in Bojongsari - Depok, Yayasan Al-Mubarokah in Ciputat – Tangerang, Yayasan Al-Hidayah in Koja – North Jakarta, Yayasan Darul Hasanah in Kebayoran Lama – South Jakarta, Yayasan Darul Aitam in Jagakarsa – South Jakarta, Yayasan Al-Quraniah in Pondok Aren - Tangerang, Paguyuban Warga Kebon Kopi, Yayasan Cut Nya Dien in Tangerang and Yayasan Pendidikan Al-Falah in Serang.

The procession to hand over the shoes to the children will be held on Tuesday, 17th July 2012 at Dua Mutiara Ballroom, JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta. There will be 15 children from the representatives of the orphanages to attend the event.  All of them will receive a pair of new shoes and 2 pairs of new socks. The children will also be entertained by various interactive games and delicious lunch prepared by the award-winning culinary team of JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta.

“We are happy to be the part of the success of these children in the future and this is the first time Marriott International properties in Indonesia are working together to make this event successful. By only collecting Rp70.000 per associate, the children will receive a gift to enter the new academic calendar and we hope that it will motivate them to reach for the star” said Karan Berry, general manager of JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta.

Associates of the JW Marriott Hotel Jakarta have gone beyond the call of duty by proactively involving themselves in various outreach programs with different working partners. One of the efforts initiated by associates of the hotel is to support these children by providing them school with necessities such as new school shoes.

Similarly, The Ritz-Carlton social responsibility program, Community Footprints, focuses on hunger and poverty relief, well-being of children and environmental conservation. Through these efforts our Ladies and Gentlemen are making a meaningful difference in our communities around the world.
