Malaysia Airlines has achieved its highest seat load factor for ten years.

The recently published traffic and capacity figures for June 2013 show growth and a seat load factor of 84.3 per cent, a seven per cent increase on last year.

The total number of passengers carried increased by 33 per cent in June 2013 compared to June 2012 and in one day the airline recorded the highest number of passengers ever carried at just over 59,000.

On average, the number of passengers carried daily has increased by 10,000 to approximately 47,000 in just 12 months.

Even with the addition of six new Airbus A380s to provide 38 per cent more seat capacity than its predecessor the Boeing B747, the increase in passenger traffic has still been greater than capacity growth.

Malaysia Airlines are flying 17 per cent more flights per day for approximately the same number of aircraft and staff as last year, which bodes well for ongoing development.

This positive trend can be attributed to the accomplishment of several major milestones in the last year.

The airline recently celebrated the first anniversary of its Airbus A380, which launched in July 2012 for the London Heathrow to KLIA route.

The success of the superjumbo led to a roll out of the aircraft across the network and a double daily direct service to Kuala Lumpur for UK passengers.

In February 2013, Malaysia Airlines became a full member of oneworld.

The carrier also resumed service to Dubai at the beginning of August and will add new destinations Kochi, in the Kerala region of India, and Darwin in Australia’s Northern Territory to their route map before the end of the year.

Today, Malaysia Airlines manages over 340 flights per day, to more than 60 destinations, carrying more than 47,000 guests each day.
