East Midlands Trains passengers will welcome today (Wednesday 11th December) the start of £250K investment programme to improve the ticket hall at Lincoln station . This project, financed by East Midlands Trains and Network Rail, will deliver a significantly improved station for Lincoln passengers.

Delivered by Bowmer & Kirkland, the project will provide a much improved station environment, featuring a new, brighter and enlarged booking hall. The new look station hall will ease the flow of passengers and improve the overall experience. An additional 40 bike spaces will be provided to make it easier for passengers to cycle to the station.
Neil Micklethwaite, Customer Service and Commercial Director for East Midlands Trains, said: “Good rail links are vital for connecting people and businesses.  The accessibility enhancements and upgrade of facilities at Lincoln will make a big difference to the overall travelling experience for the passengers who use it for over 1.6 million journeys every year.

“We are investing over £10 million to improve our stations which provide a crucial gateway to our train services.  As one of the major cities and larger stations on our network, Lincoln is a vital hub for serving our passengers in Lincolnshire and the East of our network and we’re certain these improvements will be welcomed by our passengers.

Wifi technology has now been installed at Lincoln station as part of a programme to install Wifi at 29 East Midlands Trains stations. The free service is now available throughout the concourses, platforms and other public areas within the station.

The improvement work will be carried out with minimal disruption to passengers and extra steps will be taken to keep the station open at all times. The improvement work is scheduled to be completed by spring 2014.
