Jamaica Welcomes New Direct Flights from Portugal, Boosting Tourism and Economic Growth

Jamaica’s tourism sector continues to soar with the launch of a new non-stop weekly flight from Lisbon, Portugal to Montego Bay, operated by World2Fly using a state-of-the-art Airbus wide-body aircraft. The inaugural flight takes off on Wednesday, June 4, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to diversify its tourism markets and expand connectivity to Europe.

The new service is already proving a success, with flights fully booked throughout the summer season. While the majority of visitors are arriving from Portugal, the route is also attracting travellers from Spain and other parts of Europe—providing a fresh wave of economic opportunities across Jamaica.

“This is a major win for Jamaica,” said the Hon. Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism. “It means more jobs, more income, and greater opportunities for our people—from transport operators and hotel staff to farmers, vendors, and small business owners.”

The new flight reinforces Jamaica’s strategic efforts to reduce over-reliance on any single tourism market, ensuring long-term stability and resilience in the industry. It also reflects the hard work of stakeholders including State Minister Delano Seiveright, Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) Chairman John Lynch, Director Donovan White, and JTB Europe Chief Gregory Shervington.

As Montego Bay welcomes these new European visitors, Jamaicans across the island are encouraged to continue showcasing the island’s legendary warmth and hospitality.

Jamaica Tourist Board was voted as World’s Leading Family Travel Destination 2024, Caribbean’s Leading Destination 2024, Caribbean’s Leading Family Travel Destination 2024 and Caribbean’s Leading Tourist Board 2024 by the World Travel Awards
