Investor eyes Malmaison hotel

Marleybone Warwick Balfour (MWB), a leading lifestyle hotel group, is planning to sell the freehold of the Malmaison hotel in London, according to reports.

The group which owns Malmaison and Hotel du Vin, has been in talks with an institutional investor regarding the sale of the London hotel. According to reports, MWB may consider selling properties in Newcastle, Birmingham and Manchester, as part of its plan to repay debts of £100 million.

The Malmaison and Hotel du Vin brands offer over 1,900 rooms in 26 hotels throughout the UK. Malmaison hotels are located primarily in city centres and are mid-sized, operating in the “boutique/lifestyle” market. Typically the hotels have a bar, brasserie, private dining room and meeting rooms of various sizes. Some of the hotels have additional facilities such as a champagne bar and a spa and most have gyms.

Hotel du Vin, also formed in 1994, was created as a hotel brand with an offering of bistro food complemented by outstanding wine lists and first class accommodation.
