InterCaribbean Airways Aiming To Enter Trinidad Market In 2025

Turks and Caicos-based InterCaribbean has its sights set on Trinidad, aiming to enter the market in 2025.

At the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association’s (CHTA) 43rd Caribbean Travel Marketplace, the company’s CEO Trevor Sadler said: “We will come into Trinidad this year. We’ve been holding off that entry as there’s a couple of things to want to do on our side so we’ll see launching additional aeroplanes and in turn be part of the new route structure that’s coming this year.”

Sadler dispelled rumors suggesting that the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority (TTCAA) was behind the airline’s delayed entry into the Trinidad market. He said: “No, there’s just a standard legal process that’s adjudicated via the Civil Aviation Authority in each respective country. So Civil Aviation in Trinidad has no concerns in that regard. We’ve shared in principle what we would like to do.”

No further details were provided, but InterCaribbean will most likely launch flights between Barbados (BGI) and Trinidad (POS). Given that Barbados is one of the carrier’s hubs, passengers have a wide range of destinations to choose from if they wish to further connect within the Caribbean.

Travelers can fly on to Guyana, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, and a number of islands in the Eastern Caribbean.

When they do enter service, they will be going up against both Caribbean Airlines and LIAT20.

Dominican-Republic’s Arajet plans to start scheduled service some time in 2026, and will operate flights to Punta Cana (PUJ) and/or Santo Domingo (SDQ). Arajet technically is not a new entrant to Trinidad, but only flew in on a charter basis on behalf of leisure travel agencies.

Finally, Colombia’s Avianca will be soon offer non-stop service between Trinidad and Bogota (BOG), making it much easier to connect to South America. Service is expected to start at the end of 2025 pending the two countries signing an air services agreement.
