Green Globe certified Mövenpick City Centre Hotel Amsterdam

Green Globe announces certification of the Mövenpick City Centre Hotel Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The successful certification demonstrates that the hotel maintains and practices a strong commitment to the principles of environmental, social, and cultural sustainability.

Green Globe Certification’s CEO, Guido Bauer, said: “Mövenpick Hotels&Resorts dedicates itself towards sustaining the environment. The commitment to employer and social sustainability is firmly established in Mövenpick’s corporate business strategy. The Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam is no exception: all criteria from our Standard for Sustainable Travel and Tourism are very well understood and supported by the staff.”

Albert Rouwendal, Director of Operations, Benelux of Mövenpick Hotels&Resorts, was delighted with the recognition. “This prestigious certification of our Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam – and of our other two Mövenpick Hotels in the Netherlands – is a great recognition of our endeavors within the chain to pursue sustainability in all aspects of the operations. The audit process was absolutely no walk in the park. Hence my pride in this achievement, accomplished by all members of staff, for which I am very grateful.”

The Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam is within walking distance of the historical city center of Amsterdam, close to beautiful cultural assets and alongside the edge of the IJ River. The hotel provides information in each room, as well as brochures in the lobby about local culture and history, and informs and educates guests about responsible tourism.

The hotel has its own jetty where canal boats and water taxis stop in front of the hotel. Amsterdam’s famous 17th century canals (“Grachtengordel”), for which the city has been called “Venice of the North,” have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. Other cultural sights of the city include the Rijksmuseum with its famous Dutch art, the Anne Frank House, and the historic concert hall “Concertgebouw.”

To help increase positive economic benefits to the community and expose guests to local culture, Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam’s retail shop sells local products and souvenirs, and the hotel features paintings from local artists, as well as supports local entrepreneurs by providing discount vouchers in the lobby. Besides optimizing its resource consumption and management of waste and chemical use, the hotel also uses reusable cups, glasses, cloths, and packaging and shipping containers.

All of Mövenpick’s 21 hotels in Europe have achieved Green Globe certification, which makes the company the most Green Globe-certified hotel company in the world.
