Four Seasons Welcomes Sven Wiedenhaupt as GM of Four Seasons Damascus

With industry experience spanning more than three decades, Sven brings a wealth of knowledge to his new role at the helm of the team in Damascus.

Having spent several years as part of the Four Seasons family – three years at Four Seasons Hotel New York as Director of Food & Beverage, followed by three years at Four Seasons flagship Qatar property – Sven’s knowledge of the company’s culture and his in-depth managerial insight put him in the perfect position to help the Hotel maintain its leading position among business and leisure travellers to Syria’s capital city.

Originally from Germany, Sven studied in England and Australia before studying Hotel Management at the prestigious L’Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne in Switzerland. Prior to joining Four Seasons, he worked for Intercontinental Hotel Group’s The Barclay in New York City as well as a number of highly respected four and five-star properties in areas as diverse as California, Arizona and Wisconsin in the United States of America.

Commenting on his appointment, Sven said: “I am very pleased to join the Damascus team and am excited to move to Syria. The Levant is a fascinating region, and I am keen to be heading one of the most respected hotels in one of the region’s oldest and most vibrant cities.”

Sven is a true gourmet, an avid fitness fan and a devoted golfer. He speaks three languages and hopes to add Arabic to his repertoire with another stint in the Middle East, as he moves to Syria with his wife Michele.
Sven replaces Martin Rhomberg as General Manager of the Damascus property, as Rhomberg moves on to the next exciting chapter in his career as General Manager of the stunning new Four Seasons Hotel St Petersburg, due to open in the coming year.
