Created to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment, Four Seasons Resort Langkawi, Malaysia has established a natural “classroom” on a boat amid the island’s magnificent mangroves where children can connect to nature and explore new habitats while on holiday.
Look and Learn
The Monkeys and Mangrove Kids’ Safari adventure allows children to unplug and tune into nature, interacting with the beauty of the natural world through a guided 90 minute excursion into the mangrove wetlands on a slow boat ride with “Swamp Skipper,” the Resort’s naturalist.
In an easy exploration of mangroves, mudflats and estuaries, children help identify the diversity of life forms within the mangroves and learn why mangroves are so important to the ecosystem.
This interactive session brings kids on a bird-watching and animal-spotting adventure past tangled roots and secluded caves, sharing intimate knowledge of the fascinating creatures that include monkeys, monitor lizards to mudskippers living freely in their natural environment.
Floating along the calm mangrove waters under a verdant forest canopy, children will use their senses to uncover the mysteries of the mangroves as they touch and taste leaves that “cry” salty tears and hear and see the regal eagle of Langkawi, soaring proud. From “walking” fishes to four-legged “snakes” and tree climbing crabs, children are have up close views of the amazing variety of flora and fauna present in these floating forests of the sea.
Learning is Naturally Fun
Adding to the ever-expanding line-up of nature tours and activities at the resort, the new Monkeys and Mangrove Kids’ Safari aims to inspire children to respect the environment and become stewards of these important habitats.
Through this unique hands-on learning experience in an outdoor classroom, children are able to make a lasting connection to nature through play and discovery, cultivating within them an increased caring for nature hence shaping responsible environmental attitudes.
For children and teens ages 6 - 16 years old, the safari adventure is from 5:30 – 8:00 pm and is priced per child plus 10 percent service charge. All “nature detectives” are encouraged to bring along their cameras and nature journals to record their findings on the trip. A Mangrove Trivia fact sheet, a group photo with their fellow nature explorers and a personalised Eco-Warrior certificate will be presented upon completion of the excursion.
Private mangrove tours are also available for families.
Uncovering the wonderment and adventure of the natural world, these excursions make educational, enjoyable and memorable experiences, enriching the holiday time for kids.
