flybmi to expand services from Newcastle International

flybmi has announced it will increase capacity on popular European routes from Newcastle International Airport to the cities of Brussels, Belgium, and Stavanger, Norway, by 30 per cent from October 28th.

Perfectly timed for the popular festive season, the increase in capacity will enable customers to reach the Christmas markets and winter festivities, taking place in both destinations, with even greater ease.

The increase will remain in place for 2019 to meet a year-round rise in demand from business and leisure travellers who frequent the routes.

In Brussels, the Christmas season starts on the November 30th with the opening of Brussels Winter Wonders and Christmas Market which runs until January 6th.

Over 200 chalet style stalls selling unique arts and crafts line the Grand Place, along with a traditional fairground, covered ice rink and a spectacular sound and light show.

For those who prefer a more traditional setting, the Christmas Market in Egersund, Stavanger is an ideal choice.

This Christmas Town offers an authentic and more laid-back Julebyen experience with its backdrop of snow-capped mountains, traditional wooden houses and a warm community spirit.

The market runs over two long weekends in December from the 6th-9th and 13th-16th.

The increased capacity will also enhance visitation to Newcastle throughout the Christmas season as European travellers flock to experience the cities’ very own Christmas market which starts on Friday November 16th at Grey’s Monument.

A cultural hub in its own right, Newcastle is also the gateway to the picturesque north east of England.

Leon McQuaid, head of aviation development, said: “Brussels and Stavanger are a popular choice for travellers from across the region.

“The route to Brussels not only connects business passengers to destinations around world but both destinations provide great winter city break options for our leisure passengers.

“It’s fantastic news for the airport and our passengers that flybmi have increased capacity on these two important routes. We look forward to seeing more people than ever enjoying these destinations from the region this winter.”
