Experience Dolce Far Niente: Summer at Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel
With its warm climate, long sun-filled evenings and lively calendar of cultural events, Rome is the perfect destination for a summer city break. Perched atop Monte Mario with panoramic views across The Eternal City, Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, provides a peaceful retreat from which to explore the destination’s historic landmarks – striking the perfect balance between city exploration and resort-style relaxation.
Set within 15 acres of beautifully landscaped parkland (just a 15-minute drive from the centre), the hotel is home to Europe’s largest private art collection, Rome’s first and only three-Michelin-starred restaurant, suites with private terraces that boast breathtaking views over the entire city below and a Grand Spa with three pools, offering an oasis of calm where guests can relax and recharge. The hotel’s summer programme focuses on outdoor dining, poolside experiences and relaxed evenings centred around the Italian concept of villeggiatura: the tradition of spending extended summer periods dedicated to rest, leisure and slower living.
During the day, guests can lounge by the hotel’s resort-style pools surrounded by palm trees and soak up the essence of dolce far niente as waiters deliver fresh fruit and frozen cocktails. Pool Bar serves lunch and drinks throughout the season, with Mediterranean dishes including fritto misto, lobster rolls, spaghetti with lupini clams and poolside classics such as smash burgers. Guests can also enjoy Le Terrazze, an exclusive poolside experience where sunbeds can be reserved in advance. With champagne service and dedicated amenities, every detail is designed to elevate relaxation and evoke the ease of Mediterranean living.
In the evenings, Tiepolo Terrace becomes the hotel’s main aperitivo setting, serving cocktails alongside live acoustic guitar music. Alternatively, hotel guests can also enjoy the art of aperitivo from their own private balcony, accompanied by the live music of the Tiepolo Terrace guitarist playing below. To further personalise the experience, guests can request a song of their choice for the musician to play.
Uliveto Terrace offers open-air dining beside the pool, with a menu focused on seasonal Italian ingredients and regional dishes including burrata with tomatoes and strawberries, handmade orecchiette with zucchini flowers, grilled octopus and Acqua Pazza-style fish. Piano music accompanies dinner each evening. For more informal outdoor dining, PATIO 101 serves grilled dishes, freshly made pizzas and Mediterranean seafood in a relaxed garden setting. Signature dishes include seabass with fennel and orange, lamb cutlets and traditional Roman supplì.
Rome Cavalieri’s Sunset Brunch also returns this summer, bringing the classic elements of the iconic Sunday Brunch up to Terrazza degli Aranci, where guests will find live cooking stations, refined DJ music and spectacular views over The Eternal City.
Throughout the summer, Rome Cavalieri’s Kids Club allows parents to unwind while younger guests enjoy a wide range of engaging activities, from treasure hunts across the hotel grounds to science workshops and much more. The hotel’s family friendly offerings extend beyond the Kids Club with a series of immersive family experiences designed to bring Rome to life. These include a guided walking food tour featuring pasta-making and gelato tasting, horse riding through the archaeological site of Ostia Antica, and hands-on workshops in traditional coffee and tiramisù preparation at one of Rome’s historic cafés. Families can also discover the craft of Roman sandal making or explore the city by Fiat 500 or Vespa (the latter for teens). Younger guests can also take part in the hotel’s Gladiator Training Experience, held in the surrounding parkland, where children aged seven and above are introduced to the ancient techniques of Rome’s legendary fighters and are given the chance to step into the shoes of a gladiator for the day.
Rome Cavalieri offers a truly unique way to experience summer in The Eternal City. Whether visiting for sightseeing, family time or pure relaxation, the hotel provides a tranquil hillside retreat and an ideal setting to embrace a slower, more indulgent pace of summer life.
