CTO showcase comes to London

The Caribbean Tourism Organisation has confirmed it will host a four-hour consumer event showcasing Caribbean cuisine, rum and music later this month.

Taking place on September 25th at London’s Vinopolis, the rum and rhythm-themed event will offer visitors the chance to sample a wide selection of Caribbean rums.

Also on offer will be a range of local gastronomic specialities from a range of ten exhibiting Caribbean tourist boards, Caribbean hotel groups and well known Caribbean chef, Barrington Douglas direct from victory on Channel 4 show Gordon Ramsay’s F Word.

In addition to enjoying the wide range of rum, visitors to London’s prime wine and spirit-tasting attraction will be able to explore the culinary culture of the various English- Dutch and Spanish-speaking islands with demonstrations and tasting sessions as well as exhibitions from Grace Foods, Hotel Chocolat and renowned Caribbean restaurant, Caribbean Scene Royale, as well as a special appearance from Magic 105.4FM presenter Angie Greaves.

For the younger partygoers Sesame Street’s Elmo will also be making an appearance courtesy of Beaches Resorts.

Rumfest

Also present during the afternoon will be Ian Burrell, known as the UK’s rum ambassador and the man behind London’s annual Rumfest.

Burrell will be coordinating a mixology competition and familiarising attendees with the darker, molasses-flavoured rums of the English-speaking destinations; the exclusively sugar cane-based agricultural rums (rhum agricole) of Martinique and Guadeloupe and the clean-tasting rums of Cuba and the Spanish-speaking destinations.

Tickets are available from the CTO in advance from £24 per person or £28 on the door (one child under 12 years admitted free of charge per ticket-holding adult, children aged 12 to 18 years £10 with proof of age).

Tickets allow entrants to sample Caribbean dishes and drinks from the following countries: Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, The Dominican Republic, Grenada, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Every adult visitor will also receive a goody bag, which contains information on travel to the region and great travel deals, as well as giveaways from sponsors and the 2011 Caribbean guide.
