Courtyard by Marriott expands in Mexico

Marriott International has signed as agreement with Inmobiliaria Turistica de Mazatlan to bring Marriott International’s rapidly growing Courtyard brand to Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico.

Construction of the 200-room Courtyard property is set to begin in late 2016 and it is expected to open in 2019.  The hotel is owned by Inmobiliaria Turistica de Mazatlan, S.A. and managed by Marriott International.  Once completed, Courtyard Mazatlán will be poised to attract business travelers by offering a refreshing ambience that helps guests stay connected, productive and balanced while traveling.

The hotel will be located on a 4,650 m2 ocean-front site located in Mazatlán’s Zona Dorada district.  The project will inject an estimated US$ 23M into the local economy,

The property will feature the Courtyard brand’s thoughtfully designed guest rooms provide the optimum balance between work, relaxation, comfort and sleep, public spaces where high tech meets high style and offer hot and healthy breakfast selections and light evening fare, including snacks, cocktails, wine and beer.

Commenting on the announcement, Marriott International’s President for the Caribbean and Latin America, Tim Sheldon said: “The Courtyard brand continues to experience rapid growth in the Mexican market.  Courtyard has been a pioneer brand in the business travel category and owners from around the country are recognizing that the Courtyard brand is a smart, dynamic hotel that combines innovative technology with style and comfort.”

Marriott International currently maintains a portfolio of 38 properties, 16 of which are under the Courtyard by Marriott brand representing 42% of the portfolio in Mexico.  In Mexico, Marriott International maintains properties under the Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott Hotels, Marriott Hotels, AC Hotels, Courtyard by Marriott Hotels, and Fairfield Inn & Suites brands.  The company recently debuted the lifestyle brand AC Hotels with the first properties of the brand in the Caribbean and Latin America opening in Guadalajara and Queretaro.
