Carlson Make Planning Appointment

Carlson Companies has named Peter Hawthorne vice president of Strategic Planning and Corporate Development.

In his new position at Carlson Companies, Hawthorne reports to Martyn Redgrave, executive vice president and chief financial officer. Hawthorne is responsible for leading the company`s enterprise-wide strategic planning, corporate development, and merger, acquisition, and alliance initiatives.


Prior to joining Carlson, Hawthorne was director of corporate development for Cargill, Inc., and vice president of strategy and business development for Cargill Asia Pacific, comprised of 16 business units with $7 billion in sales in 16 countries.


He also was general manager of emerging businesses for Cargill`s North American Corn Milling Division, where he developed and managed new bioscience businesses. He led the formation of three bioproduct joint ventures, including Cargill Dow LLC, of which he was chair of the board.


Hawthorne has served in a variety of consulting and management positions with Churchill Companies of Minneapolis; Bain & Company, San Francisco; Hewlett-Packard Corporation, Palo Alto; Engenics, Inc., Menlo Park, California; and Chase Manhattan Bank, New York.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Brown University, Providence, R.I., and a Master of Business Administration degree from Stanford University, Stanford, California.


Hawthorne, his wife and their three children live in Wayzata, Minnesota.
