Qantas Named World`s Best Airline for Inflight Entertainment

has been awarded three Avion Awards for excellence in inflight entertainment including Best Overall Inflight Entertainment, by the World Airline Entertainment Association (WAEA).


Qantas Group General Manager Marketing Curtis Davies said the airline`s inflight entertainment, known as Q, was judged in three categories. The 23-member judging panel awarded Qantas Best Overall Inflight Entertainment, Best Inflight Audio Entertainment and Best Main Screen/Overhead Video Programming.


“We are delighted that the airline has been recognised for the quality and variety of entertainment offered to our customers. On international services the Qantas Movie Marathon presents non-stop new release movies all the way to the flight destination and Dolby Headphone Surround Sound for cinema quality sound on selected movies,” he added.


The ON:Q program on domestic services includes:

* Comedy and lifestyle programs;

* Short Cuts - an inflight festival of quality Australian and international short films;

* Michael Leunig`s award winning animated cartoons;

* Q Music - video music programs including concerts, music profiles and music video clips and;

* Extended inflight news services including international and domestic bulletins twice daily.

Radio Q features 12 hosted music channels and four exclusive talk channels, including Talking Business and interview program, A Current of Air.


Mr Davies said the airline was mid-way through a major project to install a new $300 million Total Entertainment inflight system, on the airline`s international fleet of 747-400 aircraft.


“The system features individual seat back video screens in Economy Class, larger screens with touch control in Business and First Class and in-seat personal telephones in all classes.


“The video channel line up includes 12 movie channels and six television channels that feature Q Documentaries, Qtv business and current affairs, Q Comedy, The Edge, an eclectic mix of arts and alternative entertainment and Dreamtime, a meditation and relaxation channel. There is also 16 audio channels and 10 interactive games to stimulate the most seasoned traveller,” Mr Davies said.
