Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE: LUV) announced today that the Company flew 4.5 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in August 2003, a 3.4 percent increase from the 4.3 billion RPMs flown in August 2002. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 2.6 percent to 6.1 billion from the August 2002 level of 6.0 billion. The load factor for the month was 73.2 percent, compared to 72.7 percent for the same period last year.
For the eight months ended August 31, 2003, Southwest flew 32.7 billion RPMs, compared to the 31.1 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 2002. Available seat miles increased 4.3 percent to 47.5 billion from the 2002 level of 45.6 billion. The year-to-date load factor was 68.7 percent, compared to 68.1 percent for the same period last year.
