JetBlue Plans Initial Cancellations from Powercut

NEW YORK—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Aug. 15, 2003—New York City-based airline, JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ:JBLU) has announced initial cancellations today as the power failure continues across New York and northeast USA. With no clear end to the outage in sight and fueling resources at JFK limited by the situation, JetBlue had no choice but to begin initial cancellations. Despite having only back-up power for is operations at Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York City, the airline managed to continue to operate flights throughout last night and complete all but two of its 190 scheduled flights for Thursday, August 14.
The airline is waiving change fees and fare increases for all customers presently holding bookings on JetBlue flights through Saturday, August 16. Flights must be rebooked for travel through September 30. Customers who wish to cancel their flights will be issued full credit toward future JetBlue travel.
JetBlue is a low-fare, low-cost passenger airline, which provides high-quality customer service. JetBlue operates a fleet of 45 new Airbus A320 aircraft and is scheduled to place into service another eight A320s by the end of 2003. The airline recently placed an order for 100 EMBRAER 190 aircraft with options for an additional 100. The first EMBRAER 190 is scheduled to be delivered from mid 2005. All JetBlue aircraft feature roomy all-leather seats each equipped with free live satellite television, offering up to 24 channels of DIRECTV(R) Programming at every seat.*
