Sonesta Announces new Mikado Hotel Miami
Tibor Hollo, Chairman and President of Florida East Coast Realty (FECR), one of South Florida’s pre-eminent developers, has announced plans to start construction this June on Sonesta Mikado Hotel Miami, a 252-key mixed-use hotel with oversized rooms and double suites, featuring 119 luxury residences as well as office and retail space.Located at 1701 NE 4th Ave., across from Margaret Pace Park and Biscayne Bay, Sonesta Mikado is being developed by FECR and will be managed by Sonesta, a company that for over 60 years has owned, managed, designed, built and marketed hotels throughout the world. Providing four-diamond services and amenities, this upscale property is the newest addition to the Sonesta Collection of hotels and is scheduled to open in 2011.
The 40-story mixed-use hotel will feature a full-service upscale restaurant; pool bar and grill; 14,000 square feet of flexible banquet and meeting space; 45,000 square feet of office space; fitness center and destination spa; and a 12th floor pool deck with breathtaking views of downtown and the Port of Miami.
Designed with a modern Asian theme by the award-winning firm of Zyscovich Architects, Mikado takes its name from The Mikado, the famous Japanese opera by Gilbert and Sullivan. The hotel will feature Far East undertones, and contemporary décor and luxurious upscale amenities in guest rooms.
Located in the Arts & Entertainment District in downtown Miami, Sonesta Mikado will offer a culturally rich urban setting. It is just a few blocks from both the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, with its renowned opera house and performance halls, as well as the American Airlines Arena, home of the Miami Heat. The Design District, South Beach, Brickell’s Financial Corridor, and Miami International Airport are all within a few minutes drive.
FECR was founded 55 years ago by Tibor Hollo and has since built over 55 million square feet of landmark residential, commercial, industrial, and governmental properties and marinas. Mr. Hollo forged new ground by developing the Omni/Venetia area, thus sparking the transformation of a lackluster midtown district into one of South Florida’s most important centers of commerce and recreation.
FECR is currently developing 2020 Ponce, a premier office condominium in downtown Coral Gables, and has recently completed and closed the luxury condominium Opera Tower. Other completed projects include Bay Parc Plaza, downtown’s premier rental property; the elegant Quayside Townhomes, a cluster of sixty magnificent condominium units on Biscayne Bay; and The Club at Brickell Bay, a 643 unit luxury condominium. With a solid track record in South Florida, the company is currently seeking expansion opportunities in new markets.
