Carrentals.co.uk keep ahead in difficult times

The UK’s leading car hire comparison site, Carrentals.co.uk, is remaining positive about the rental market despite news of 1Car1 going into administration.Managing director of Carrentals.co.uk, Gareth Robinson, says: “The news that 1Car1 has been placed in the hands of administrators is bad news for its employees, however it proves just how tough the rental market is.  The truth is that in the current climate the vehicle hire industry is facing challenges with fleets, costs and budget-conscious customers, and only the best companies will survive.

“Both business travellers and holidaymakers are being forced to cut back on their spending, and get savvier about what they book.  They want a company that is established and trusted to deliver the right car at the best possible price.  This is where comparison sites come into their own, offering customers a wider choice of vehicle providers in a single place, while delivering the most competitive deals.”

Despite the challenges of the economic downturn, Carrentals.co.uk is positive about rentals both in the UK and overseas.  While 2009 is billed as a bumper year for UK holidays (Carrentals.co.uk UK rentals are up 20%), the company is also reporting demand for overseas rentals up 10%, with the company expecting turnover to exceed £25m at its year-end in January - up from £23m last year.

Gareth adds: “What we are seeing is customers still committed to taking a holiday, or seeing through their travel plans, but they are looking for ways to reduce their costs.  Car hire is one of many areas that can be brought in under budget - it’s a competitive market, now more than ever, so sites such as ours that compare prices and find a better deal are giving back control to the customer.”

Carrentals.co.uk compares car hire deals from up to 50 rental companies, including Sixt, Alamo, Holiday Autos and EasyCar, in over 9,000 locations worldwide
