Ryanair’s passenger numbers rise 19% for August

Ryanair has posted up-beat traffic figures for August, showing a 19% (940,000 passenger) increase compared to August 2007. However load factor was down marginally from 91% to 90% for the same period due to an increase in capacity. The low-cost carrier said the figures represent a rise in passenger numbers every month this year while continuing to maintain a load factor of 81% for the year.  It also says it is confident that passenger numbers will continue to remain strong as it takes business from competitors that raise fares and fuel surcharges.

Stephen McNamara, Head of Communications, said: “Ryanair’s latest passenger figures show that we continue to grow passenger numbers every month this year.  Our rapidly growing passenger numbers come at a time when many airlines, which are facing huge losses, are raising fares and fuel surcharges in an attempt to turn these losses around.”
