UAE mourns Sheikh Nassar

The United Arab Emirates is in a state of mourning following the death of Sheikh Nasser Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday evening when a helicopter carrying him and several aides crashed over Gulf waters.Sheikh Nasser Bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the brother of the United Arab Emirates president and ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The rulers have declared three days of mourning in the Emirates, during which flags are flying at half-mast.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, also declared a three-day mourning period starting on Tuesday in Dubai.

President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum attended funeral rites in Abu Dhabi. UAE Supreme Council members and rulers, crown princes and deputy rulers of various emirates, Sheiks, citizens and others attended the funeral prayers held at the Sultan bin Zayed Mosque. Sheikh Nasser bin Zayed Al Nahyan was laid to rest at the burial ground in Al Bateen in Abu Dhabi.

The president also received condolences from leaders across the world on the death of his younger brother.

Sheikh Nasser Bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the son of Sheikh Zayed, the Gulf country’s first president who is widely regarded as its founding father.
