Staff shortages have caused British Airways to cancel some flights on Friday, including one transatlantic service. The disruption occurred at Gatwick Airport where a flight to Houston in Texas was among those axed, according to the UK Press Association.One of the Houston passengers told PA: “I’ve heard that BA is about 200 crew staff short and there is huge disruption to flights. “We turned up only to find that our flight had been cancelled and a number of other services are not operating as well.”

A BA spokesman said: “There have been a very small number of cancellations, mostly of short-haul flights.

“Passengers on the Houston flight are being flown out on an alternative flight to Houston.

“There is a staff shortage involving cabin crew today.
