Amala Spa opens at Hyatt Birmingham

A new £1million, urban spa has recently opened at Hyatt Regency Birmingham.  Set to become one of the country’s leading urban spas, amala boasts state-of-the-art technology and joins Hyatt Hotels’ other 70 world renowned, award-winning spas, which have become destinations in their own right.

amala features a full sized Hammam (Turkish Bath) linked to a therapy room where traditional body treatments are applied in a warm steam environment on a heated marble slab. Six further treatment rooms have the latest technology in hydraulic massage couches and, for mums-to-be, there’s even a couch with a special support for baby’s bump, as well as a suite with wheelchair access.

amala is the first spa in the Midlands with a dual therapy suite enabling two people to enjoy treatments at the same time and it is also the only spa in the UK to use and retail the luxurious Californian spa product range, Kerstin Florian . Used at Hyatt Regency La Manga and Grand Hyatt Tokyo, Kerstin Florian specialises in using natural resources including thermal mineral water and herbal extracts to produce one of the most distinguished skin care lines in the spa industry.

amala’s approach to achieving overall well-being of mind, body and spirit lies in the treatments, which have been created around four key elements; Clarity - to invigorate and awaken senses, Rejuvenation - to nourish and renew, Illumination - to discover physical and mental enlightenment and Relaxation - to reduce stress and regain harmonious balance. To complement treatments amala offers specialist teas sourced from far flung corners of the globe in its sumptuous Tea Lounge which provides the perfect environment for pre and post-pampering relaxation.

Located in the heart of Birmingham, amala enhances the hotel’s existing facilities of gym, swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi and is the perfect place for busy city executives, both male and female to achieve some well earned relaxation. During a lunch break, city workers can choose from a wide range of treatments to enjoy, such as a 30 minute one-to-one yoga session, a 30 minute deep-tissue massage, an express manicure or even a luminescent eye treatment - designed to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Those with more time to spare can choose from a range of individual treatments and a series of Spa packages including half day, full day and Stay and Spa packages, available to hotel guests and non-residents. People needing to rejuvenate can experience the half day Rejuvenation Escape which includes the ultimate anti-aging facial, time for tea, Sports / Swedish massage and a one-to-one yoga session.

Individual treatments available include amala’s signature treatment, the Hammam Signature Ritual, which takes place in a private steam treatment room and awakens the senses with an invigorating full body scrub followed by a relaxing all over mud mask, whilst the head, scalp and pressure points are massaged. Those wanting to feel nourished and renewed can enjoy the Marine Algae Body Envelopment which detoxifies the body whilst boosting the blood stream with vitamins, minerals and enzymes to lift, replenish and renew the face and body. Other treatments include; Facials, Indian Head Massage, Hopi ear candles, Reflexology, Reiki, Mud Envelopment and Massages.

Under the supervision of Spa Manager, Genevieve Ainsworth, who has joined from one of the world’s top Spa Resorts in St Lucia, amala will be a real contrast to traditional rural Spa retreats offering top quality treatments in the heart of the city, for everyone from Spa virgins who want to dip their toe in the water for the first time to discerning Spa disciples devoted to the very latest and most exclusive treatments.  Special events will include guest speakers focusing on health and beauty issues and visiting alternative practitioners from Hyatt Spas all over the world.

Hotels’ Spa Operations Assistant Vice President, Gordon Tareta, said: “Hyatt is renowned all over the world for its ‘state of the art’ spas offering luxurious facilities and the most up to date treatments. With AMALA we are bringing this outstanding concept to Birmingham, giving Hyatt Regency Birmingham and the city an urban spa it can truly be proud of.”
