Budget carrier AirAsia plans to fly to Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang in Vietnam after launching its maiden direct flight to Hanoi, the Star newspaper cited group chief executive officer Tony Fernandes as saying.

Fernandes said the airline has submitted a proposal to fly to Ho Chi Minh and is also keen to service the Da Nang route.

AirAsia launched a daily Kuala Lumpur-Hanoi-Kuala Lumpur flight yesterday costing 99 rgt one way.

Direct flights to Vietnam will attract tourists from the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region, Europe and the United States, Fernandes said.

“We have been providing flights from Kuala Lumpur to Hanoi through Bangkok and we have been seeing a lot of foreign tourists using the flights,” he was quoted as saying.
