Etihad flies Abu Dhabi-NYC

Etihad Airways is continuing to expand its international network of destinations with the launch of a daily round-trip flight between Abu Dhabi and New York’s JFK airport, Terminal Four, starting October 26, 2006. “The announcement of this new destination is a significant milestone for Etihad Airways. By connecting Abu Dhabi and New York, we are once again illustrating the ambitions we have at Etihad Airways to service the world’s most strategically important cities and regions,” said HH Dr. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saif Al Nahyan, chairman of Etihad Airways.

Trade between the United States and the UAE amounted to $10 billion in 2005, making it the second-largest U.S. trading partner in the Gulf Cooperation Council behind Saudi Arabia. There are also more than 500 American companies in the UAE which are set to benefit from Etihad’s daily service.

“The U.S. Embassy is pleased to recognize the introduction of the first Etihad Airways non-stop flight from Abu Dhabi to New York. This accomplishment represents another milestone in the strong U.S.-UAE bilateral relationship and is further proof of the strength of our ties,” said Michele J. Sison, U.S. Ambassador to the UAE.

Guests on the New York route will enjoy the very best Etihad in-flight service in the new purpose-built Airbus 340-500 aircraft. Configured with two aisles, the aircraft can carry 240 guests in three distinct zones: 12 in the Diamond zone, 28 in the Pearl zone and 200 guests in the Coral zone.

The Airbus 340-500 is one of Etihad’s first planes to offer the luxurious and revolutionary Diamond zone seat which can rotate 180 degrees, enabling guests to hold meetings, share group meals and converse with one another.

For guests looking to relax on the flight, each Diamond zone suite is fitted with a privacy shell and features a six-way movement headrest with built-in massage facility. The seat also reclines into a luxurious six feet eight inch flat bed at the touch of a button.

“By flying on the new A340-500, our guests will now be able enjoy Etihad’s unique levels of hospitality and comfort. The Diamond and Pearl zones offer in-flight luxuries of exceptional standards whether it is fully flat beds, state-of-the-art entertainment or fine dining,” added Geert W. Boven, Acting CEO, Etihad Airways.

Flight EY 503 will depart Abu Dhabi International Airport every day at 2:15 pm, arriving in New York at 9:25 pm. The return flight, EY 504, departs at 11:10 pm arriving the next day in Abu Dhabi at 8:25 pm.

Throughout the last 12 months Etihad has expanded considerably the number of destinations to which it flies, fully supporting Etihad’s proud position as the “world’s leading new airline.”

This breakthrough growth enabled the airline to achieve its goal of launching 30 guest destinations in just 30 months. Etihad now offers guest and cargo services to more than 40 cities worldwide.

New York will join other recently launched guest routes including Brussels, Casablanca, Dhaka, Jakarta, Johannesburg, Manchester, Manila, Muscat, Paris and Toronto.

Several other new routes such as Osaka and Shanghai are scheduled for launch later in 2006. These launches will ensure that Etihad is on schedule to meet its ambitious target of flying to 70 destinations by 2010.

Etihad’s route to New York also provides a wealth of new opportunities for Etihad’s cargo and holidays divisions, Crystal Cargo and Etihad Holidays.

The A340-500 has a cargo capacity of 11 tons at full passenger load on its Abu Dhabi - New York route, complete with adjustable heat and air conditioned aircraft holds.

Etihad Holidays will offer guests a multitude of accommodations from which to choose in New York, including such centrally located hotels as the Waldorf Astoria, the Hilton on Times Square and the New Yorker.
