Singapore appoints UK, Ireland GM

Singapore Airlines (SIA) is appointing Mr Marvin Tan as the new General Manager for the UK and Ireland.  Mr Tan joins from Vietnam where he was the airline’s General Manager in charge of all aspects of SIA and SIA Cargo’s operations in the country.

Mr Tan began his career with SIA in 1996.  He worked in Marketing in Singapore Head Office before becoming Marketing Services Manager in Taiwan in June 1998.  A year later he was transferred to Japan holding the post of Manager Chubu where he oversaw the airline’s operations in Central Japan.  In April 2004 he became the General Manager in Vietnam.

Mr Tjhoen Onn THOENG, SIA’s Senior Vice President for Europe said: “I am delighted to welcome Marvin to the UK office.  This year is particularly busy as we celebrate 20 years operating from Manchester and 35 years from London Heathrow.  Marvin’s extensive experience and knowledge will be an asset to us in our work with these two important markets”.

Mr Marvin Tan said: “I am joining at an exciting time, especially as we gear up to be the first to fly the A380, the world’s first twin-deck, twin-aisle aircraft.  This milestone will enhance SIA’s position as an excellent brand founded on quality service and outstanding product innovation.  I am delighted to be taking up my new position and look forward to the challenge.”
