U.S. Virgin Islands to showcase charm

The U.S. Virgin Islands will play host to the 28th Annual Caribbean Tourism Conference (CTC-28) scheduled October 21 - 26, and has an opportunity to showcase the islands’ charm. On October 24, the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Tourism will welcome more than 700 delegates to St. Thomas during a welcome extravaganza featuring West Indian food, Quadrille dance, Mocko Jumbies, infectious Quelbe music, an internationally celebrated youth steelband and the U.S. Virgin Islands’ duty-free shopping. “As Chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization, I feel especially honoured that the organization is hosting this important conference in the U.S. Virgin Islands,” said Pamela C. Richards, Commissioner of Tourism.

“We look forward to maximizing this special occasion to showcase our islands’ uniqueness to those who will be attending.”

Scheduled to take place from 7- 10 p.m. at Havensight Mall, the ‘Welcome Extravaganza’ will bring delegates together for an evening of full-scale, Virgin Islands-style entertainment.

Arriving delegates will be met dockside by greeters dressed in traditional attire.  The site will be transformed into a traditional West Indian village featuring numerous food & beverage stations, live music stages, local arts and crafts vendors and a Cruzan Rum Tasting booth.
