Spice Island Resort and Blue Horizons Grenada Spared by Emily
Spice Island Beach Resort and Blue Horizons Garden Resort
in Grenada emerged unscathed following Hurricane Emily, a category 1 storm that
passed by the island yesterday, in the early morning hours.
Spice Island Beach Resort is in the midst of a US$10 million rebuilding project
(following Hurricane Ivan last September), and after an early afternoon assessment,
resort officials reported that none of the structures currently rebuilt sustained
any damage.
Blue Horizons Garden Resort, which re-opened its doors in early July following a
$1.5 million refurbishment, was not affected by the storm.
The southern section of the island including all major hotels, the international
airport and Grand Anse Beach received little or no damage. All utilities including
telephone service has been restored on the southern half of the island.
Most
businesses and shops are back in regular operation. The northern parishes of St.
Andrew’s and St. Patrick’s sustained heavier damage along with Grenada’s sister
islands of Carriacou and Petit Martinique.
