Sheraton and Westin Begin Side by Side

Starwood announces the groundbreaking of two new airport hotels - the Sheraton Baltimore-Washington Airport Hotel and The Westin Baltimore-Washington Airport hotel both located in Linthicum, MD, a growing suburban market less than three miles from Baltimore-Washington International Airport. The 203-room Sheraton is slated to open in the fall of 2006. Next door, the 260-room Westin is scheduled for a spring 2007 opening. Both hotels are owned by Brentwood Hotels and will be managed by LTD Management Company LLC.
“We are excited to be working with Brentwood Hotels and LTD Management on these two new properties in such an important market,” said Ted Darnall, president, Starwood Real Estate Group. “Our Westin and Sheraton development pipelines represent the most aggressive growth we have seen in the history of Starwood. We look forward to meeting the demands of our loyal guests who until now have not had the option of staying in a Sheraton or a Westin in this emerging location.”

“The Baltimore area is a perfect match for these two world-class hotel brands,” said Malay Thakkar, vice president of development for LTD Management Company. “Given BWI airport’s $1.8 billion expansion program, we believe that the market will continue to grow, and travelers will demand high-quality lodging and meeting venues.”

These newly-built Westin and Sheraton hotels are smaller in size than you would find in a “downtown” urban location and are designed with just this type of growing market in mind. Designed to be scalable to the depth of secondary and tertiary markets, these newly developed premium designs are of the same quality as core brands Sheraton and Westin, but at a lower cost per key because of the efficiency of their designs.

Representing the best of service, style and comfort for today’s affluent professional business and leisure travelers, The Westin Baltimore-Washington Airport will boast a glass and natural stone lobby, communicating modern luxury and classic elegance immediately upon arrival. Guests will continue this luxurious experience with elegantly styled guest rooms featuring the brand’s signature Heavenly Bed(R), a gracious work area and contemporary flat screen HDTV’s. The oversized, elegantly appointed four fixture bathroom features a frameless glass shower with dual showerhead, granite and chrome vanity and slate flooring. Other guest services include Westin Executive Club Level with upgraded guest room services and amenities and an exclusive Club Lounge. In addition, the Westin will feature a full-service restaurant.

The Sheraton Baltimore-Washington Airport Hotel will feature urban architecture with a 19th century American park design; vibrant public areas and a unique guest room experience featuring the Sheraton brand’s signature Sweet Sleeper(SM) Bed; an expansive 12-foot desk, LCD TV’s; oversized bathrooms with double-frosted glass doors at entry and frameless glass shower stalls. Other guest services will include the Sheraton Club Level with upgraded room amenities and an exclusive Club Lounge.

Both properties will offer high-speed wireless Internet access in all public areas and guest rooms. The availability of flexible meeting space and banquet areas in both the Sheraton and Westin will offer opportunities for businesses to book day meetings within a short distance of the airport. The Westin will have nearly 7,300 square feet of meeting space, and the Sheraton, more than 4,600 square feet.
