Singapore Launches Global SMS Check-in

From this month, frequent flyers (PPS Club and KrisFlyer members) and registered users of the Singapore Airlines website will be able to enjoy the ease and convenience of checking-in using their SMS (Short Message Service) from most cities on Singapore Airlines’ network worldwide.
First launched in August 2004, the SMS Check-in service enables customers to check-in and confirm their seat allocation remotely using text messages on the mobile phone. Initially only available in 12 destinations, Singapore Airlines is extending the SMS Check-in service to most cities which the airline flies to.

To utilise the SMS Check-in service, a customer must first register on the Singapore Airlines website at www.singaporeair.com. At the website, log in and go to “My Flight Alerts”, and select “Check-in Notification Service via SMS”, and the customer is ready to use the service.

Once registered, customers will receive a SMS from Singapore Airlines 48 hours prior to their flight departure. To check-in, customers need only reply to the SMS between two and 48 hours before their departure, and they will receive a confirmation within minutes of the check-in and also the allocated seat number via SMS.

On the day of departure, customers simply need to go to the dedicated counter at the airport to collect their boarding pass and check-in their baggage.

Passengers can enjoy this expanded SMS service in most SIA stations worldwide except in Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Colombo, Ho Chi Minh City, Kolkata and Mumbai. In addition, the SMS Check-in service is not available to customers using mobile phones subscribed to service providers in Japan, Korea, China, Canada and the US.
