Grisham ‘Flies’ on American Six Times Each Day

When American
Airlines’ six daily flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport to
London depart in January, world-renowned author John Grisham will be on
board—in hardback cover. Grisham’s newest book, “The Broker,” will be
given to First Class passengers as part of the book’s worldwide launch by
Grisham’s publisher, Doubleday. Business Class and Coach Class passengers will also have the opportunity
to win a copy of the book by answering Grisham-related or AmericanAirlines
Vacations(SM) trivia questions posed by the flight attendant such as “How
many New York Times best-sellers has Grisham written to date?” or “What is
the most popular vacation destination book through AA Vacations?”

Because much of “The Broker” takes place in Italy, American Airlines,
AmericanAirlines Vacations and Doubleday are teaming up to conduct a
television contest that will award two roundtrip tickets on AA to Italy
for 25 lucky winners in select cities across the U.S. including Boston,
Cleveland, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, St. Louis and Washington, D.C.

“While Mr. Grisham isn’t actually flying on our flights to London from
JFK, we’re very pleased to be a part of the launch of what is sure to be
another best seller,” said Richie Christy, Vice President-Sales &
Marketing for AA Vacations(SM) group. “We selected the London flights
because our customers are able to connect on flights to Rome out of London
on British Airways, a oneworld Alliance partner. In the spring, our direct
service to Rome—which is seasonal—will start up again. But no matter
what time of year, there are great worldwide vacation packages available
at AAVacations.com.”

“The Broker” is about a notorious and charismatic Washington power broker,
Joel Backman, who has spent the last six years in a federal prison for
traitorous activities that include trying to sell the world’s most
sophisticated satellite system to foreign governments. It is in the final
hour of an overwhelmingly failed administration when the outgoing
president is approached by the CIA and asked to grant Backman a pardon.
Freed from prison, Backman will be in tremendous danger from the people he
wronged during his career, so the CIA plans to smuggle him out of the
country and give him a new identity first in Treviso, and then in Bologna,
Italy. They offer him language tutors and a strict schedule of immersion
in the culture so that he can survive far from home. But all along they
are only waiting and watching—to see who will kill him.

The answers to the above trivia questions? Before the release of “The
Broker” the count was 17; the Broker will become Grisham’s eighteenth New
York Times bestseller. And, Hawaii is the most popular AA Vacations
destination.
