Priceline.com said today that it has sold a total of more than 20 million hotel room nights since launching its first Internet hotel reservation service in October 1998. “Through its superior savings, priceline.com’s Name Your Own Price(R) service continues to put some of the world’s finest hotel accommodations within easy reach of millions of leisure travelers,” said Chris Soder, priceline.com’s Executive Vice President, Lodging and Vacation Products. “For our hotel partners, priceline.com’s supplier-friendly system delivers incremental bookings and revenue on an as-needed basis without affecting retail distribution channels.”
Priceline.com also said today that it now has more than 20,000 hotel properties around the world offering specially negotiated rates through priceline.com’s family of hotel services - an increase of approximately 100% over a year ago. Priceline.com’s hotel bookings network includes priceline.com, Travelweb LLC and Active Hotels, along with other owned and affiliated Web sites.
Priceline.com’s global hotel network offers specially negotiated room rates in the following countries and areas:
Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Bahrain, Belgium, Bermuda, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Caribbean, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Estonia, Ethiopia, Faroe Islands, Fiji, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Greenland, Guam, Guatemala, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Maldives, Mexico, Morocco, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Republic of Malta, Romania, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunesia, Turkey, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yemen, Zimbabwe.
Priceline.com’s hotel services have grown considerably since 1998. Today, priceline.com offers a variety of global reservation options. Active Hotels, priceline.com’s most recent acquisition, provides specially discounted published-price hotel rooms in Europe through its own Activereservations.com Web site and more than 1,000 affiliated sites.
Travelweb LLC, another Internet hotel reservation service owned by priceline.com, offers published-price hotel rooms in many different countries around the world. And priceline.com’s flagship Name Your Own Price hotel service offers hotel rooms in the U.S., Europe, Asia, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
In 2005, priceline.com said it will begin integrating its various hotel reservation options so that customers will have a choice - they can pick the exact hotel property they want at specially discounted published prices or, for greater savings, they can use priceline.com’s Name Your Own Price option.
Priceline.com’s Name Your Own Price hotel service is different from other hotel reservation services. Customers choose the dates, the neighborhood, the star level hotel they want and the price they want to pay. Priceline.com then works to find a hotel willing to sell a room at the customer’s desired price. Priceline.com customers using this option are able to save up to 40% or more over the published prices found on other major travel reservation services.
