Fogelman College Honors Steve Porter

The Fogelman College of Business and
Economics affiliated with the University of Memphis honored Steve Porter,
president, the Americas, InterContinental Hotels Group, the world’s largest and most global hotel company, with
its prestigious 2004 Distinguished Friend of Fogelman award during the
school’s 12th Annual Alumni Day held at the Holiday Inn University of
Memphis.Porter was recognized for his ongoing support of the Kemmons Wilson
School of Hotel and Resort Management, a part of the Fogelman School of
Business. The Kemmons Wilson School of Hotel and Resort Management
was founded in 2001 by donations from Kemmons Wilson, founder of
the Holiday Inn brand, and his family commemorating the 50th anniversary
of the Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts brand.  The University of Memphis’s
Fogelman College of Business and Economics produces the largest number
of MBA graduates in Tennessee.

“InterContinental Hotels Group is pleased to assist in the development of
the industry’s future leaders through its continued relationship with the
Kemmons Wilson School of Hotel and Resort Management,” said Porter.

Since 2001, IHG has been involved with the school in a number of ways
including: offering a scholarship to help female and minority students who
are interested in the hospitality field, funding the school’s InterContinental
Chair of Excellence and partnering with the school to hold e-commerce
workshops in their computer labs for IHG staff and school faculty—giving
them access to the latest e-commerce industry trends.
