Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti Opens Its Doors

The Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti, the first upscale resort to open its doors on the island of Tahiti since 1997, has welcomed its first guests.Ê Situated on four acres in the town of Arue, the heartland of the old Tahitian royal family, the 165-room resort is the only hotel with direct access to Lafayette Beach, a black sand beach spanning 2,600 feet, and the first resort on the island to feature a full-service spa.Ê All guestrooms and suites overlook the ocean with large terraces and 32 guestrooms feature private whirlpools on the terrace with louvered shutters for privacy.Ê

The Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti is the first Radisson-branded property in the South Pacific, and the first resort to open its doors under the leadership of Paul Kirwin, president of Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific.Ê Carlson also operates the Radisson Seven Seas Paul Gauguin cruise ship in the region year-round.

“This resort represents an important step in the growth of the Radisson brand, and is the first of several new Radisson resorts scheduled to open its doors in the region, in destinations including Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia,” Kirwin said.

ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ General Manager Philippe Guitton said the resort will play an important role in the re-positioning of the island of Tahiti as more than just a stopover destination for travellers venturing onto the outer islands.

“This full-service resort, with its peaceful location away from the hustle and bustle of busy Papeete, will no doubt change the complexion of travel to the island, encouraging guests to stay longer than the typical one-night stopover on the way to other islands,” said Guitton.

To celebrate its opening, the Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti is offering a special package, offering rates starting at $273.50 U.S. per person to experience this upscale resort.Ê The Tahiti’s Exotic East package includes two nights’ accommodations; a morning boat excursion including visits to historic Matavai Bay (where Samuel Wallis discovered Tahiti in 1767), dolphin-watching, snorkelling tour and coconut demonstration; an “East Coast Exotic Escape” half-day morning excursion including visits to Taharaa, Venus Point, the Blow Hole and majestic waterfalls and exotic welcome flowers.Ê The package is available for 27,350 CFP (approx. $273.50 U.S.) per person, based on double occupancy, from now to December 31, 2004, and is subject to availability.Ê Rates are subject to daily exchange rate fluctuations.

The Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti features 86 ocean-view rooms, 52 suites and 27 duplex suites.Ê The guestrooms and suites feature a contemporary, locally-inspired décor accented with vintage black and white photos of Tahiti and handicrafts by local artisans, while at the same time offering the latest in modern technology, with flat-screen televisions and broadband Internet access in every room.

The resort’s le Spa features two double treatment rooms with jet baths, two single treatment rooms, vichy shower, a full-service salon and a 24-hour fitness center.Ê Le Spa offers a distinctly Tahitian spa experience, with signature treatments featuring the use of black sand and volcanic stones as well as indigenous fruits and flowers including papaya, coconut, vanilla and the exotic tiare flower.Ê To create these exotic treatments, le Spa’s professional team consulted with the Tahitian ‘Mamans’ to source ancient recipes and traditional techniques passed on through the generations.

Hiti Mahana, the resort’s signature restaurant, offers both indoor and outdoor dining with scenic views of the Pacific Ocean and neighboring Moorea.Ê The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and features a cosmopolitan menu with a Polynesian, European and Southeast Asian influence.Ê The resort also features the expansive Lafayette Bar and the James Norman Hall Lounge.
