Continental Airlines and the
Tucson, Ariz., Airport Authority today announced the airline will launch
daily nonstop service between Tucson International Airport and Newark
Liberty International Airport, beginning Sept. 30, the only nonstop
service between southern Arizona and the New York area. Sundays through Fridays, the flight will depart Tucson at 10:55 p.m.,
arriving at Liberty International the next morning at 6:35 a.m. Return
service departs New York at 7:35 p.m., arriving in Tucson at 10:15 p.m. On
Saturdays, the flight will depart Tucson at 12:10 p.m., arriving at
Liberty International at 7:50 p.m. The westbound Saturday flight will
depart New York at 8:45 a.m. and arrive in Tucson at 11:25 a.m. All
flights will be operated with 104-seat Boeing 737 aircraft.

Continental offered Saturday service between Tucson and New York from last
December until May.

Fares between Tucson and New York begin at $164 each way based on
roundtrip purchase when bought 14 days in advance and with a one-night
minimum stay. Additional taxes and fees apply.

“Continental Airlines’ announcement of daily nonstop service to the New
York area is terrific news for residents of Southern Arizona,” said
Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano. “Not only does it provide local
travelers with easy direct access to one of the major regions of the
country, but makes it more convenient for business people, conventioneers
and leisure travelers to reach Tucson, which is an important gateway to
Arizona and Mexico.”

“Nonstop service to New York has been one of our primary targets for air
service and we are delighted that Continental is making this a permanent
addition to their lineup,” said Bonnie Allin, president and chief
executive officer of the Tucson Airport Authority. “When Continental ran
this flight last year it was very popular and we expect Tucsonans and
visitors from the east coast will be very supportive.”

“Daily service between Tucson and the nation’s financial and tourism
capital, coupled with the breadth of service Continental offers at its New
York-area hub, will make travel between Tucson and major business centers
in the Northeast easier than ever,” said Larry Kellner, Continental’s
president and chief operating officer. “We believe customers in Tucson
will appreciate Continental’s full-service product and our commitment to
give all of our customers more value for their money.”

Travelers flying to New York will arrive at Newark Liberty International
Airport, the New York-area airport most convenient to midtown Manhattan
and northern New Jersey. High-frequency commuter rail and Amtrak service
at Liberty International Airport takes customers to New York’s Penn
Station in less than 30 minutes, and offers connections to points
throughout New Jersey. In addition, Continental offers on-airport
connections via Amtrak to Philadelphia, Wilmington, Del., and Stamford and
New Haven, Conn.

Customers flying beyond New York can connect to cities in the eastern
United States, and to cities in Canada and the Caribbean. With 400 daily
flights to more than 140 destinations worldwide, Continental offers more
flights to more cities from the New York area than any airline in the
world. The airline’s Terminal C at Liberty Airport, which includes DKNY
and Kenneth Cole department stores and a variety of high-end and
quick-service restaurants, has been ranked highest among U.S. airports in
terminal concessions.
