ABTA Welcomes Select Committee Report
ABTA has welcomed today’s Transport Committee report - “Financial Protection for Air Travellers”.The Association agrees with the conclusion of the Committee that the increase in low cost and general air traffic has left many unprotected travellers unaware of their position, with a significant risk to airline failure now present.
ABTA calls on Government to act quickly on the expected recommendations of the CAA and find the time for the necessary legislation to extend the ATOL scheme to cover all air passengers, who pay in advance of travel.
ABTA Chief Executive Ian Reynolds, who gave evidence to the committee, said: “The Committee is spot on with their analysis. This is the biggest missing piece in the consumer financial protection jigsaw. Government must require airlines to provide the same cover of protection against their failures as already provided by ABTA travel agents and tour operators.”
