Continental to Inaugurate Newfoundland Service

Continental Airlines and the St. John’s International Airport Authority
today announced the airline will inaugurate seasonal nonstop service
linking St. John’s, Newfoundland with the airline’s New York hub at Newark
Liberty International Airport.
The once-daily service, which will operate between June 1 and Sept. 29,
will connect St. John’s, one of North America’s oldest cities, with the
financial and tourism capital of the United States.

The St. John’s-bound flight will depart Newark Liberty at 5:20 p.m.,
arriving at 10:06 p.m. Return service from St. John’s begins June 2. The
Newark Liberty-bound flight will depart at 6 a.m., arriving at 7:50 a.m.

“Our new service will offer the fastest, most convenient link between the
Canadian Maritimes and New York, a welcome addition for business and
leisure travelers,” said Bob Cortelyou, Continental’s staff vice president
of scheduling. “Importantly, our hub at Liberty International will offer
travelers from St. John’s new options for travel to Florida, the Caribbean
and Mexico. And the host of oil and energy companies doing business in St.
John’s will have better access to Houston, the U.S. oil and energy capital
and Continental’s hometown.”

“The St. John’s International Airport Authority is extremely pleased that
Continental Airlines is beginning service in our province,” said Rex
Ledrew, president and chief executive officer of the St. John’s
International Airport Authority. “The direct flight between St. John’s and
the New York area is a great opportunity for business and leisure
travelers to access the U.S. in a convenient and timely way. We welcome
Continental to St. John’s and look forward to a positive relationship that
will be beneficial to our travelers and potentially expand into even more
flight options in the future.”

Customers flying beyond New York/Newark will have the opportunity to
connect to dozens of cities in North and South America, Europe and Asia.
With almost 400 daily departures from Liberty International Airport to
more than 120 cities worldwide, Continental offers more flights to more
cities from New York than any other airline. The airline’s Terminal C at
Liberty Airport, which includes Kenneth Cole and DKNY department stores
and a variety of high- end and quick-service restaurants, has been ranked
highest among U.S. airports in terminal concessions.
