Brits name Route 66 as their favourite U.S road trip

Route 66 is the most popular U.S road trip for British travellers this year according to booking data from US Motel chain, Motel 6, as British holidaymakers take to the open road to explore famous sites such as The Metro Diner and Meteor city.

The 2450 mile long scenic route, famous for towns such as Amarillo and Santa Monica and seen in popular movies such as “It Came From Outer Space” has seen up to 25% more visits this year than its closest competitor, the Pacific Coast Highway, cementing it as the UK’s most popular road trip. In fact, Motel 6 locations situated along Route 66 have already had almost 3000 bookings since the start of 2013 compared to less than 2100 for the PCH.

Motel 6 has been welcoming visitors from all over the world for over 50 years and with over 1000 locations nationwide, they’re an authority on affordable U.S. travel.  In fact, not only is Route 66 the most popular road trip but Motel6 in Anaheim (on Route 66) is also actually one of the most popular destinations in the U.S with almost 1923 bookings in 2013 already.

Fifty years since it first opened its doors, today’s Motel 6’s offer the amenities that made it famous including free morning coffee and pet friendly motels as well as a few more modern-day necessities, including extended cable TV channels, free local calls, Wi-Fi access and, at most locations, swimming pools. And, with over 1000 locations nationwide, Motel 6 offers the perfect solution for the price conscious traveller.
So whether you are cruising down the Pacific Coast Highway in a soft top or experiencing the wonders of Route 66, Motel 6 offers comfortable beds at great prices for the weary traveller.
