British couple killed in Spanish flash flooding

A British couple have died in Spain after being swept away in a flash flood, according to reports.

The British couple - who have now been named as Kenneth and Mary Hall - are thought to have been dragged away in the torrent as water flowed through the market place causing destruction.

The pair, thought to be in their 70s, had been sitting having a coffee in the town of Finestrat on the Costa Blanca when they were swept away, according to reports.

A Foreign Office spokesman commented: “We are aware of the death of two British nationals in Finestrat, Spain, on October 21.

“We are providing consular assistance to the family.”

According to local Spanish media another two people were treated in hospital following the incident.
