Bolt stars in new Jamaica ad campaign

The world’s fastest man, sprinting superstar Usain Bolt is to feature in a new TV commercial as part of Jamaica’s “Once You Go, You Know” campaign.

Usain Bolt, winner of three gold medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and three gold medals at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, will appear in a series of 30-second TV commercials that will air in key U.S. markets in February and March.

The first commercials features Bolt running throughout Jamaica, but doesn’t make much progress because he pauses to take in the view after every few steps.

In “Speed,” the second commercial, he runs past a series of landscapes to the song “One Love”. And in the third, called “Pose,” a series of everyday Jamaicans imitating his famous “lightning bolt” pose.

Jamaica’s Director of Tourism said: “The campaign is just planned for television, but it could be developed into a print campaign later on.”

“He was more than happy to show off his home to the world,” Lynch said. “He is a proud son of Jamaica.”

Increased airlift and new hotels coming on line will boost Jamaica’s tourism product in the critical peak season, Lynch said.

“We’re anticipating a pretty good winter season,” he said. “We’ll have an increase over last winter. Our visitor numbers were down for the first six months of 2009, but we picked up after that, and the picture became more positive.”
