Bath Christmas market spreads the joy

Bath Tourism Plus, organisers of Bath Christmas Market have announced that this year’s event, taking place 22nd November – 9th December, will include more stalls than ever before, with an expansion of the site into Bath Street and a satellite area at Milsom Place.

The plans, part of a five year development plan for the market, are aimed at encouraging the estimated 350,000 visitors to the market to venture further into other areas of the city, enabling more city centre retailers to benefit from the potential extra business in this important trading season.

10 new retail stalls are planned for Bath Street, extending the current footprint of the event site.  This addition will make a greater feature of the Victorian carousel, and bring a food vendor and entertainment pitch close to the main stream of customers traveling along Stall Street to enhance the customer experience.

Nick Brooks-Sykes, Chief Executive at Bath Tourism Plus says: ‘One of the aims of Bath Christmas Market is to attract potential customers into the city centre for the benefit of the city’s shops, attractions and eating establishments.  Last year’s event proved that we are on track with this, attracting more than 300,000 people – now our priority is to ensure that the whole of the city benefits from this additional trade, by encouraging visitors to move around and experience all that the city has to offer.’

Sarah Mansfield, director at Milsom Place, said: “Milsom Place is a favourite Bath neighbourhood for its original mix of classy shops, cafes and restaurants. For the first time, in 2012 the Bath Christmas Market will have a presence in Milsom Place’s popular courtyards. We are looking for the right type of businesses to trade from the stalls which will be interwoven throughout this stylish retail destination”.
