BA to call off flights between London Gatwick and Sharm El Sheikh

The carrier has announced early May as the deadline to stop call off its flights to Sharm el Sheikh from Gatwick. The national airline of Egypt, Egypt Airways also offer direct flights to Cairo and Sharm el Sheikh however, the airline only flies from London Heathrow Airport. IN the scenario, when British Airways will also stop flying from Gatwick, travelers from South London will have no choice but to book domestic flights to Heathrow and take on their International direct flight to Sharm el Sheikh.

British Airways spokes person blamed the ‘current market conditions’ and ‘present level of expected demand for the summer’, that resulted in terminations of its Sharm el Sheikh route from Gatwick.

After May, when British Airways will close its Gatwick-Sharm el Sheikh route, Easy Jet airline will become the one and only carrier offering flights to Sharm el Sheikh from Gatwick. However these will not be nonstop / direct flights.

Due to rising oil prices, changing political conditions in the Middle East and Africa and also, the constantly varying global air travel industry challenges, many airlines have decided not to add more route in their network for the year 2011, while other airlines are switching their less active routes for the ‘high in demand’ ones.
