BA opens window on new Microsoft app

British Airways has partnered with Microsoft to be the first UK airline to offer Mobile Boarding to Windows Phone 7 users.

Designed around the customer’s needs, the new app provides instant access to tailored information about their next British Airways flight direct from the app’s dynamic home screen, providing real-time updates throughout their journey.

In addition, customers will enjoy an enhanced boarding experience by enabling them to check-in on their mobile and download boarding passes direct to their handset.

Integrating Windows Phone 7’s panoramic navigation, terminal maps have been added to a British Airway’s app for the first time, helping customers to find their way through airports around the world.

Richard Bowden, British Airways’ digital marketing innovation manager, said: “This new app puts Window Phone 7 users in charge of their travel experience with British Airways like never before.

“The app has been built with the customer at heart, to give them more freedom and convenience.

“Our partnership with Microsoft ensures British Airways is the only UK airline to provide app access across a greater range of mobile platforms and underscores our commitment to constant innovation and improvement.”

By becoming an Executive Club member, which is free to join, any British Airways customers can take advantage of Mobile Boarding.

As well as earning BA Miles on qualifying flights or those of the airline’s oneworld alliance partners, members can also get instant access to their Executive Club account to check their latest Miles and Points balance.

Nick Hedderman, head of apps strategy and marketing, Microsoft UK, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with British Airways to launch such an innovative app.

“Taking advantage of Windows Phone 7’s engaging platform, British Airways’ customers will experience a fresh, intuitive app which enables them to access vital information by swiping across its rich, immersive panoramic design.”

The new app features real-time flight and departure information, as well as live travel updates from British Airways.

Customers will also be able to receive gate alerts from Terminal 5 for their next flights.

The app will be available on the Windows Phone Marketplace from today.
