AHIF 2018: Radisson unveils plans for ten new Africa hotels

Radisson Hospitality has announced the signing of ten new hotels in Africa during Africa Hotel Investment Forum.

The decision marks an acceleration of the Nasdaq Stockholm-listed company’s expansion across the continent.

Radisson Hotel Group’s growth strategy in Africa is a key initiative in Destination 2022, the group’s five-year strategic operating plan, with the goal of becoming one of the top three hotel companies in the world.

Andrew McLachlan, senior vice president, development, sub-Saharan Africa, Radisson Hotel Group, said: “We are thrilled to be announcing ten new hotel deals in just nine months, which equates to at least one new signing every month.

“Each signing is strategically aligned to deliver our five-year development plan, through new market entries, the introduction of new brands and delivering scaled growth in Africa’s key destinations.

“So far this year, we will be adding 1,300-plus rooms to our portfolio in Africa and plan to continue this accelerated growth through further expansion in key markets across this this flourishing continent.”

In addition to the Radisson Hotel & Apartments Abidjan Plateau and Park Inn by Radisson Lusaka Longacres hotels announced earlier this year, the remaining new hotel deals include:

Radisson Collection Ikoyi Lagos, Nigeria

Radisson Collection, the group’s premium lifestyle collection of exceptional hotel properties in unique locations makes its debut in Ikoyi, Lagos and is the third Radisson Collection hotel in Africa.

This luxury hotel will be situated in a prestigious upscale area within Lagos Island, at the edge of the Lagos Lagoon.

Scheduled to open in 2020, the hotel will feature 165 rooms, including contemporary standard and executive rooms and a presidential suite.

Radisson Hotel Lagos Ikeja, Nigeria

Located in Ikeja, the capital of the Lagos State, Radisson Hotel Lagos Ikeja is situated on Mobolaji Anthony Highway, a main highway linking Ikeja with the rest of Lagos.

The international airport, which accounts for 50 per cent of all air traffic in Nigeria is located one kilometre from the hotel.

The hotel has 92 rooms which includes standard and deluxe rooms as well as suites designed to delight the senses.

Park Inn by Radisson Serviced Apartment Lagos VI, Nigeria

Also making its debut in Lagos is the fast-growing upper midscale brand, Park Inn by Radisson, which will open serviced apartments, located just off Adetokunbo Ademola Street, the main boulevard within Victoria Island.

Comprising of 55 contemporary hotel apartments, the hotel will also offer four food and drink outlets made up of an all-day dining restaurant, bar and two outdoor terraces.

Radisson Blu Hotel Casablanca

As the fastest growing hotel brand in Africa, Radisson Blu, will enter Africa’s number one financial hub, Casablanca, with the opening of the Radisson Blu Hotel, Casablanca in 2019.

The hotel will be situated in the city’s business district and on the doorstep of major attractions such as the enchanting Old Medina (old town), Casablanca Marina and Hassan II Mosque, the second largest mosque in the world.

The new-build hotel will feature 120 rooms, with a mix of stylish standard rooms and suites.

Park Inn by Radisson Tunis

Radisson Hotel Group enters the capital and largest city of Tunisia with the Park Inn by Radisson Tunis.

The hotel will be in the bustling city centre, just five kilometres from the Tunis-Carthage International Airport, with easy access to the highway. It is also walking distance from the Tunis Train Station and the business district of Avenue Habib Bourguiba and Avenue Mohamed V.

The hotel will feature 102 rooms, with a mix of standard rooms and suites

Radisson Blu Hotel Niamey, Niger

Entering a new African market, the new-build Radisson Blu Hotel, Niamey will open in 2019.

Niger, the capital city of Niger and a hub in Francophone West Africa is part of ECOWAS as well and will strengthen Radisson Hotel Group’s strategic position in West Africa.

The 196-room hotel will include five different rooms types, including stylish presidential and royal suites.

Radisson Blu Hotel Conakry, Republic of Guinea

Radisson Blu enters Conakry, the capital city of Guinea and the hub of Francophone West Africa and is scheduled to open in 2019.

The hotel will lead the upper upscale hotel market of Conakry with its prime location, accessibility, and international upper upscale branding.

The hotel is ideally positioned next to the city centre and is surrounded by the Convention Centre, Palais du Peuple, the National Hospital and multiple embassies.

The hotel features 123 bedrooms, consisting of five different room types, including two presidential suites.
