130 additional cycle spaces installed at sheffield station
The new cycle spaces, which are located at the rear of the disabled car park near the entrance to Sheffield station, are spaced over two levels in an innovative space-saving storage system. Enhanced CCTV coverage has also been provided to ensure cyclists can leave their bikes safely and securely.
Andy Moore, Head of Stations for East Midlands Trains, said: “We’re currently investing around £10 million to improve our stations, and as part of this package have already introduced improved cycle facilities at 29 of our stations.
“However, we’re particularly pleased to have worked with the SYPTE to deliver the 130 new spaces at Sheffield and believe that by providing safe and secure storage, we can help encourage even more people to cut down on their reliance on cars and maybe consider an alternative way of getting to the station”.
SYPTE’s Director General, David Brown, said:“We are delighted to have worked alongside East Midlands Trains to be able to offer these additional cycle spaces at Sheffield station. SYPTE has an ongoing commitment to promote active travel options, but understand that trips made solely by walking and cycling are not always feasible. These latest developments offer the best of both worlds for passengers.”
