World Travel Awards has unveiled the nominees for its upcoming Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony 2016. The first event on the annual Grand Tour, the ceremony will this year be hosted by Diamonds La Gemma dell’Est in Zanzibar, Tanzania, on April 9th. With more than 1,500 nominations now revealed, voting is expected to be highly competitive right up until the February 29th deadline.

British women in Zanzibar acid attack
Two British females have been attacked on the east African island of Zanzibar, according to reports. The 18-year-old women, who are believed to be charity workers, had acid thrown on their faces, chests and hands as they walked in Stone Town.

The International Council of Tourism Partners (ICTP) announced that the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism has joined the alliance as a destination member.
Hundreds feared dead in Zanzibar ferry sinking
Hundreds of ferry passengers are feared drowned following the sinking of a vessel off the coast of Zanzibar. As many as 600 people were on board the boat when it went down earlier, with some 380 still unaccounted for.
