United apologises for reintroducing 9/11 flight numbers
United Airlines has issued an apology after “inadvertently” reintroducing flights numbered 93 and 175 – the same as those involved in the 9/11 terror attacks.
United Continental hit by rising fuel costs
United Continental Holdings – the largest airline in the world – slipped to a $213 million loss in the first quarter as fuel costs soared. A 26.5 per cent rise in the cost of fuel – taking the total to $2.67 billion – offset a 10.8 per cent increase in revenue, largely generated through price increases.
United links up with ANA for trans-Pacific service
United Continental Holdings has signed a deal with Japanese carrier ANA to launch a new trans-Pacific joint venture. Under the terms of the deal United Airlines and partner airline Continental Airlines are set coordinate sales and marketing with ANA in order to improve benefits offered to each airline’s frequent flyers.

Flights return to Narita Airport in Japan
Airlines operating from the United States and Australia have returned to full operations in Japan following an earthquake and subsequent tsunami on Friday. American Airlines and Delta Air Lines both confirmed they would offer a full schedule today following disruption over the weekend, while Qantas added services were continuing as normal.
Boeing 747 debuts in new United livery
United Continental Holdings, Inc. unveiled the largest aircraft in its fleet, the 374-seat Boeing 747-400, in the new United livery. With the first 747-400 rebranding completed, the carrier now has at least one of each of its mainline fleet types painted in the new United livery.
Continental Airlines launches Turks and Caicos service
Continental Airlines has inaugurated non-stop flights between its New York hub at Newark Liberty International Airport and Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. Initially the flights will operate four times a week, on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, converting to daily service on March 6th, 2011.
United moves in to claim Mexicana slack
United Continental Holdings has launched a series of new departures to Mexico in an attempt to replace Mexicana as the dominant carrier in the region. While the Mexican carrier is seeking to relaunch later this year, UCH will begin offering improved services to Leon/Guanajuato, Cancun, and Mexico City in the interim.
Air Canada to launch cross-border tie-up with United
Air Canada and United have unveiled plans to create a joint venture to bolster their position on United States-Canada transborder flights. A memorandum of understanding signed by the partners said the arrangement would help both airlines compete more effectively, while supporting substantial service and pricing benefits for passengers.
Continental-United complete merger
United and Continental Airlines have completed their merger, creating the largest airline in the world by revenue. The company has begun trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol UAL, with ambitions to generate $1.2 billion in net annual synergies by 2013.
