Mexican hotels see 50% drop-off
Data from STR has shown Mexico’s hotel industry occupancy dropped more than 50% at the end of April and beginning of May. This is after the outbreak of influenza A (H1N1), or the swine flu as it has also been called, was announced.

U.S. Hotel perfomance for March 2009
The U.S. hotel industry posted declines in all three key performance measurements during March 2009, according to data from STR.In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy in March fell 11.6 percent to end the month at 55.2 percent (62.5 percent in March 2008). Average daily rate dropped 9.6 percent to finish the month at US$99.42 (US$109.97 in March 2008). Revenue per available room for the month decreased 20.0 percent to finish at US$54.93 (US$68.69 in March 2008).
U.S. Hotel performance results
The U.S. hotel industry posted declines in all three key performance measurements during the week of 22-28 February 2009, according to data from STR.In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy fell 12.6 percent to end the week at 54.1 percent. Average daily rate dropped 6.8 percent to finish the week at US$100.54. Revenue per available room for the week decreased 18.5 percent to finish at US$54.37.
Asian hotels see big drop in sales
Hotels in the Asia Pacific region have reported double-digit decreases for all three key performance metrics for January 2009, according to data compiled by STR Global. Occupancy in the Asia Pacific region dropped 18.3% to 54.3%; ADR declined 12.2% to US$125.31; and RevPAR fell 28.3% to US$68.09.
Trading remains tough for UK hotels
Preliminary UK hotel data released by STR Global confirms that hotels throughout the UK experienced difficult operating environments in January.The results are universally in negative territory, however performance levels were not as poor as expected given the current economic conditions. The UK overall saw a decline in RevPAR between 10 percent and 12 percent split fairly even between rate and occupancy.
