Norwegian has reported highest ever passenger figures for a single year, with almost 30 million passengers flying in 2016. The airline also achieved a load factor of 88 per cent last year. The launch of 34 new routes and a substantial increase of intercontinental traffic contributed considerably to the growth, the airline said earlier.

Norwegian has outlined the next steps in its plans to launch transatlantic routes from Cork and Shannon Airport. The announcement comes as the airline’s Irish subsidiary Norwegian Air International was awarded a foreign carrier permit by the US authorities this weekend. Norwegian plans to operate daily transatlantic flights between Ireland and the US East Coast.

Norwegian has reported its best quarterly results ever, with the low-cost carrier reporting NOK 993 million net profit for the three months. The figure represents an improvement of NOK 160 million compared to the same quarter the previous year. The load factor was 91 per cent and the performance was positive in all markets, with Spain boasting the strongest passenger growth.

Low-cost airline Norwegian continues its UK expansion, by putting on sale two new routes from London Gatwick to Keflavik, Iceland and Rovaniemi, Finland. From October 30th, Norwegian will add its first UK service to the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik. Three weekly flights will operate direct to Keflavik throughout winter on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays – perfect for a long weekend.
