HRS: London hotel prices buoyant over long-term
Hotel solutions provider HRS has compared average hotel room rates worldwide over the last four years (2011 – 2015) and revealed that despite economic uncertainties during this period, the outlook for the UK hotel industry is largely positive with an overall increase in room rates by 26 per cent. In fact, London is one of the top three most expensive cities for an overnight stay in the world, costing £141 on average per night, according to the latest figures from 2015.
All black cabs to accept credit cards from October
Travelling in one of London’s black cabs is about to join the modern world, with confirmation every London taxi will be required to accept card payments for their fares by October this year. The move was approved by the board of Transport for London following a consultation in which an overwhelming 86 per cent of respondents backed the move.
London continues to record strong tourism growth
London continued to welcome record numbers of international tourists to the city between July and September last year. More than 5.2 million visits to the capital according to the latest data from the Office for National Statistics International Passenger Survey.
New Edwardian Hotels London brand launches in UK
Edwardian Hotels London has been launched, replacing the previously used Edwardian Group London. The hospitality group which owns and operates 12 hotels, including The May Fair Hotel in London and Radisson Blu Edwardian Manchester in the city’s Free Trade Hall, has also unveiled its new branding and logo.

VisitLondon.com teams up for festive Pinterest campaign
London’s official visitor guide, VisitLondon.com, has teamed up visual bookmarking site Pinterest as part of a new campaign “Christmas London Moments”. The campaign aims to increase audience interaction with festive content across VisitLondon.com and its social media platforms. Launching today the collaboration with Pinterest, a competition to ‘Pin Your Dream trip’, will ask users from around the world to create London inspiration boards in the lead up to and during the Christmas period.
Low-cost accommodation drives London hotel boom
The number of hotel rooms in London is expected to grow by 12 per cent over the next three years according to new data compiled by London & Partners and AM:PM, with the increase being driven by an uplift in budget and five star hotel accommodation across the capital. These new properties and hotel extensions will add 17,769 more rooms across the capital over the same period, up from the current figure of 138,769.
OXBO Bankside joins London hospitality scene
OXBO Bankside and The Distillery – the restaurant and bar within the new Hilton London Bankside – has opened to the public. Set in the centre of London’s vibrant Bankside, just minutes from the Tate Modern, the new launch features high-end, locally inspired food and drink offerings and contemporary interior design.
London breaks visitor records in 2015 second quarter
London’s tourism boom has continued during the second quarter of 2015, with the city welcoming a record 5.1 million international visitors between April and June this year, six per cent more than the same period last year, according to the Office for National Statistics International Passenger Survey. Tourist spending over the same period was £3.2 billion, an eight per cent increase compared with the second quarter of 2014.
